“We Get Too Much Crap For Not Being Innovative,” DICE Says

DICE has gone nuclear against gamers who claim that both it and its publisher/owner EA don’t innovative enough.

Here’s DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson, speaking to Gamasutra:

EA is actually very prone to try out new things. And I have to say that sometimes I think we get too much crap for not being innovative. We do release new IPs, and we do take care of IPs that have been out there. And perhaps not so successful, but we try to get new things out there as well.

Now, that might sound strange coming from me, working on Battlefield. We’ve been around for 10 years, and we just keep doing more of the same, but being innovative in that space.

Innovation is something that actually changes something for the better, renews something–and I think we do that all the time. But some of them are big and some of them are small, and some people disagree, saying, ‘That’s not an innovation!’ and it’s like, ‘No, maybe not for you, but for the people playing the game it’s a big thing.

Let’s talk, do you think DICE innovates? We hear Battlefield 4 will be out next year.

    OH PLEASE!
i think a company that releases sequel after sequel after sequel, a company that announces BF4 only a few months after BF3 released, a company which previously stated it would be impossible to build a BF game in 2 years or less, a company that said we had to tone down dead space because allot of people were saying they were too scared to finish it, a company that said i have not and will not green light a SP only game, a company that said new IPs are suicide this late in the generation, a company that oh what the hell you get the point by now!
a company with all those ridiculous remarks MORE than deserves the criticism they get!
so my apologies karl, but theres a reason why EA was recently voted worst company!
and theres a reason why EA and DICE cop all the flack they do.
