Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is a prequel to 5

During PAX today, Hideo Kojima said that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, the amazing open-world Metal Gear title that will grace our consoles next year, is actually a prequel to Metal Gear Solid 5.

He also revealed some interesting details: Big Boss is back, as the main character, and he will use a helicopter to travel around the world and take missions. The villain is also a suited guy, that sports a flat-brimmed hat, and his face is burned and disfigured. He also calls his mercenaries “an army without nation”, whose organization’s name is XOF – both being a play on FOX, Big Boss’ unit. The game was also showcased on the FOX Engine for about 15 minutes. We will try to ge the footage here the soonest possible.

interesting to see where the story will take place for this, especially if its a prequel to 5.
even though kojis always said peace walker is MGS5.
anyway cant wait to get a better look at this fox engine looks freaking incredible!
have to wonder though apparently this is not project ogre, so what is?
MGS5, or maybe that taboo game hes been talking about?
and why did he decide to reveal this now instead of something else?

Still, being a sequel to Peace Walker doesn’t negate the fact that it can be a prequel to 5. Peace Walker is the closest we have, timeline-wise, to the first two Metal Gears, that take place in Zanzibar and Outer Haven. For all I know, Metal Gear Solid 5 is a remake of both those titles, with the FOX Engine, and Ground Zeroes is the one that ties up all the story up until the first Metal Gear games. We all know where it went from then on.

nah 5 wont be a remake if it really is going to be a launch title for the ps4 there going to need something a bit bigger than just a remake!
theres plenty other places they could take the series, perhaps introduce a new character.

You do realize a ton of fans, me included, want a complete remake of the first two Metal Gear games, and would pre-order them the time they were announced. Especially for Playstation people, who have been much more familiar with the franchise for years.

yup, do you realize a ton of fans, me included would prefer GTA vice city HD and GTA san andreas HD over GTAV?
point being remakes will always be popular, but not as popular as whole new games.

Apples to oranges. You’re talking about an HD version of a game I can still pick up and play on a modern console, and I’m talking about complete remakes, in today’s standards, of games released decades ago.

could do the same if you wanted with GTA.
point being most will prefer something totally new than a reinvision.
put it this way what would you prefer?
star wars 3,4,5 remastered in 4K resolution?
or a all new star wars movie that will be just as good, if not better than them?
you will always want something new over something old simply in the hope that it will surprise and delight you as much as the old did.
im the same id much rather a new crash bandicoot like the original, but i know thats never going to happen the devs will manage to screw it up which is exactly why i wish they would do a HD remake.
