Technically, the internet has been around since the Cold War, but in the form of simple packet switching.
-
But yeah, I do understand what you're saying. I miss, and don't miss, the cartridge (and later) period(s). I miss them, because of the simplicity that was there, and less focus on trade shows and all that. No MLG was around, no E3 that circled around developers trying to impress us. Gaming was a hobby.
-
But I don't miss it, because online gaming doesn't only mean "pew pew online CoD". We get patches, we get DLC, we get online play, we get a lot. If a game was broken in the code back then, it was broken, the end. Nothing could be done, absolutely nothing. You just wasted 40-50-60-70$ on something that won't work. Today, most problems can be solved with patches we get. That, I like.

i even remember a Pete sampras tennis by codemasters for the mega drive that had an additional rwo extra ports in the top of the cartridge so you could have 4 players without the need of an adapter! that was an igenious idea!

THINK!?
people ARE not "worried", because its already happened!
the industry has become FAR too a experience for everything rather than what it use to be, ie a very specific market!
you dont see ferrari saying ok from now on were making the worlds fastest car, AND the worlds most luxurious, AND the worlds smoothest ride, AND the worlds best looking, AND the worlds cheapest, AND ect, ect.
they cater to the supercar market, simple as that!
games have become different, they have to be EVERYTHING!
and thats why every game this year has SUCKED!
there so boring because they have no identity, they dont know what they want to be!
because they dont want to be anything, because that would mean only 1 thing, and that would mean loosing customers.
end of the world that is!
i wish this industry would go back to how it use to be, a niche market for a specific audience!
and not the everything for everyone market!
we REALLY need to stop being jack of all trades master of none, and become jack of few trades master of one.
IE do ONE thing and do it REALLY well!
not do a million things and do them half a$$ed!

The first console I ever had was for my brother and me to play it was a Game Boy Colour, ohh it was just so great. Pokemon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so 99 in 1 game packs XD. I really wished I got to play a SNES. So that's why I want to get a emulator!
