Have you been paying attention to John Carmack’s virtually reality headset he’s been pushing so hard lately? It promises to change the way we interact with games forever, giving a level of immersion never experienced in gaming before. Well, you can have one in 29 days if you back the headset on Kickstarter.
It’s called Oculus Rift, and they say it’s the “first truly immersive virtual reality headset for video games”. Designed by Palmer Luckey, Oculus is being praised by some of the industry’s most identifiable and prominent developers. Everyone from Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski to Valve’s Gabe Newell have placed their support behind the new gadget, and DOOM 3′s mastermind and the inventor of the FPS genre John Carmack has jumped in as one of its most vocal supporters.
The goal here is to raise enough money to make Oculus developer kits available to gaming studios as quickly as possible so they could integrate the technology into their games, so by the time Ocolus hits retail, there will be enough support to push sales.
The good news is the Kickstarter’s already shattered its funding goal of $250,000 in one day, and is inching closer to $1 million.
I’ll let the video do the rest of the talking.
I can see myself using this thing! What about you guys?
