Quenchables: Ubisoft Says New Consoles Are Overdue

“What we missed was a new console every five years. We have been penalized by the lack of new consoles on the market. I understand the manufacturers don’t want them too often because it’s expensive, but it’s important for the entire industry to have new consoles because it helps creativity.” – CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot speaking to Gamasutra.

hes right, but his reasoning is not.
what he was saying if you read the full interview was that new IPs are best released on new consoles, and we have had no new consoles so no new IPs, thus the hurting the industry.
but thats a load of hogwash!
new IPs if anything are easier to do later in a consoles life cycle because 1 on a financial standpoint there is a MUCH larger fanbase out there, and lets be honest new IPs rarely sell well.
so its far less of a risk there.
2 its far less a risk doing new IPs later rather than earlier on a creativity and manpower standpoint too.
if you have a new console you have your team beavering away trying to figure out new things they can do with the game, and how to take advantage of the systems abilities.
when their focus should be on creating something new, something different we have never seen thats the whole point of new IPs!
so sorry dude, but i dont buy your new IPs are best done at the start of a console generation BS.
