Folks, this is the real deal. Leaks are coming in from left field about a new console that’s right now under development called Ouya, and it’s not from Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.
Ouya is a $99 box running on the Android platform which focuses on free gaming, according to details spotted in a listing on a site for tech start-ups, as captured by The Verge. But here’s the juicy bit: “Even the underlying hardware is ‘built to be hacked’—every customer who buys a retail box will get a dev kit in the bargain, the site claims.”
The look of the console is being designed by this guy, Yves Béhar – the man who designed the look of the One Laptop Per Child computer. The project also has backing from top industry people, including ex-IGN exec Julie Uhrman, former Xbox boss Ed Fries and other top technology people.
Sources say there’s even more surprises to what’s most definitely an out of left field new entrant into the games industry – and we can’t wait to hear more.
Thirsty Conversations:
We have PlayStation, Xbox and Wii – can the games industry handle, or does it even need another games console?
Your thoughts.
