To most of the gaming world, Activision is the devil. So too is EA. But according to The Amazing Spiderman developer Beenox Studio, the ‘bad’ reputation label given the publisher is unfair, as they’ve only encountered the contrary even before Activision bought Beenox.
That’s according to studio founder Dee Brown who revealed the details of the great relationship in a recent GamesIndustry interview.
“I would certainly say from an internal perspective that the reputation Activision has acquired is probably unfair,” Brown told the site.
“We had to work with Activision prior to our acquisition. There was a reason why I as the studio founder agreed to be acquired. It was because of their independent studio culture. I believed in that model, and I still believe in that model today.”
Brown added: “They’ve been, from a creative standpoint, really, really great. When I look at Shattered Dimensions, what were asked for at the time was ‘Please make a Spider-Man game.’ That was the creative direction that Activision gave us.
That is pretty much the creative involvement that Activision had. As a game developer, it is just really great to have that level of freedom, and it is really great to feel empowered and make the game we really want to make.”

everyone says their a laid back publisher but i think thats exactly the problem.
look at 99% of the games antivision releases!
there all shit!
thats why people hate them.
oh and the way they turn out DLC pack after DLC pack and charge ridiculous prices for them!
than release DLC pack after DLC pack and call them sequels!
case in point when was the last time beenox delivered a GOTY contender?
i rest my case!
I disagree with you, there. If most of the games they released were rubbish, they wouldn’t be the number dev in terms of sales in the industry. I don’t care how your twist, it’s just not possible.
i wish that was true but its not.
sales do not equal quality its as simple as that!
99% of the games antivision have been crap, and the 1% that are not crap were pretty mediocre!
best game antivision has released this gen is singularity and thats pretty pathetic because it was not exactly a GOTY contender!
in fact there the only publisher yet to release one AAA game this gen!
i hope the new spiderman turns out to be that 1 game.
but i doubt it.
