Feature: Next Generation Starts Now

playstation 4

Can you hear it? If you can’t, listen a bit longer because although Sony and Microsoft haven’t confirmed their next generation consoles, the drums of change have been, for a while, beating loud and clear. Get ready! Next generation starts now.

PS3′s now six years, going on seven and Xbox 360 is seven going on eight, these consoles have been around for too long and the two big players know it. Oh! don’t be fooled, first-party developers from both Microsoft and Sony have been working-away on their respective next generation systems, as first-party games usually are the titles to first grace new platforms. So it has begun, gamers! And I believe these are the most exciting times in the games industry’s history.

Where there is smoke, there’s fire. Nothing rings truer that the old adage. When a rumor comes out, not every single detail will be true, but you can bet your bottom dollar there’s some facts mixed between the chatter. So too are the rumors swirling around PS4, now known as PS Orbis and Xbox 720, known now as Durango or Xbox Infinity.

Game developers are also in on the worst kept secret, however NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) have kept them from saying anything publicly. Crytek’s working on next-gen games, Guerrilla Games, too. And that’s just to name a few. Remedy Entertainment, Netherrealms, Epic Games and almost every other developer are hard at work on games for Sony and Microsoft’s new systems. They’ve been at it for a while, too.

And I’m not saying it’ll be all ‘fine and dandy’, because as is with every new generation, there are hiccups in the beginning, but pending Sony and Microsoft doesn’t screw up real big by totally blocking the functionality of used games on their consoles, and requiring gamers to always be connected to the internet to play, I believe we’re in for the ride of our lives when 2013 comes about.

So expect next year’s E3 to be the livest of all time. Expect to learn about new IPs that will accompany the new consoles. Expect to see visuals unheard of and features once thought impossible to be standard on the new systems.

God’s willing, I’ll be there, hopefully having a drink of gamesthirst while covering the full thing. Hopefully by then, the drink we’ll be so entrenched in the industry that we’ll be able to invite (everything paid) some of you to accompany us to what’s expected to be the most momentous E3 yet. Who knows, right? Who knows what Valve is planning? The firm might introduce the next big thing to the games industry, and one can never count out Apple, especially as it gets ready to introduce its own brand of TV later this year. Again, everything can change, but the good news is, it looks like change will be the for the better.

Imagine a new PSN with features unheard of. Imagine a redesigned Xbox Live experience that’s second to none. I’m telling you, there’ll be nothing like it.

Next generation starts now!

biggest question is what will it offer.
im just not so sure new consoles are justified.
i mean people need to go spend 500 bucks on a new system, plus 100 bucks or so on accessories, not to mention every time we have new consoles game prices increase.
ps1 games here were 80 brand new, then ps2 was 100 then ps3 was 120.
im just not sure were going to see graphical leaps and other features that warrant the expense!
especially considering were in a recession now and not many people have 500 bucks burning a hole in their pocket!
last thing we can afford is for a money bled $ony and M$ send themselves even more money bled releasing new systems and then becoming even more money bled because no one buys them!

I think it’ll offer a lot of new innovations. I believe we will be wowed when we finally see what the big three have been working on…. don’t count out Valve.
