343 Industries is the developer helming the Halo ship these days, and when it comes to Halo 4, a game many believe will be the last Halo for Xbox 360, the developer reckons the console only barely manages to power the shooter, as it’s their most ambitious project to date.
“We’re out of space, we’re out of horsepower, we’re out of everything,” 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor told OXM at Microsoft’s Spring Showcase event in San Francisco. “If you’re doing your best work that machine should be exhausted when you’re done, and we’re getting there.”
“I think the clever thing to do is make your trade-offs early and then go over what you intend to do, and that’s where we are now.”
In light of all this talk, I’m looking forward to the best Halo game ever made. You should be doing the same.

Blah Blah Blah…..stop riding your own johnsons and deliver a Halo game that will be on par with the previous games. Visuals seems to be all they are speaking of,and to be honest it will probably be the best looking game until the next ps3 exclusive drops. And the cycle will repeat itself. Make me want to purchase another 360….thats how I will be impressed.
so would the ps3 be able to mange this? or is it just that the game is that powerful its getting to thw stage where only next gen consoles will be able to handle the type of gaming that is now capable of being produced

The ps3 is vastly more powerful. I’d imagine it could definitely run it better.
But it’s not without it’s own faults, namely it’s terrible shared ram.
Ps3 games are starting to look really good. But it’s taken years for developers to get to grips with it. Which is why it would be a shame if the ps4 doesn’t use a cell processor.
They basically threw 2 new things at developers years ago, blu ray, and the cell processor. Devs had no idea how to get the best out of them. Now they are starting to really do well.
If the leaked specs are anything to go by, the next Xbox is using a gpu that can already be bought for like $70. Probably half that by the time it releases, and probably half again when you buy / produce millions of them.
I’d really like to see some cutting edge stuff, not just using already low speced pc gpus.
I fear the next Xbox is all about the latest craze of digital downloads/streaming. And trying to do everything.
It’s a games console, make it awesome at games.
