Quenchables: Microsoft Praises Sony HD Remake Efforts, Criticizes It

Yeah, the title is rather confusing, wouldn’t you say? But that’s exactly what’s happened here. Corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer talks up Sony’s HD remake efforts as a “great job”, but then criticized the phenomenon as giving gamers the same thing twice. His quick, quenchable quote below the break.

“Sony’s done a great job with looking at their back catalogue and selling those games again. “[However], I [don't] want to get into a world where people felt like I was just trying to sell them things that they’ve already played.” – Speaking To GameInformer via Gamezone.

So what about the Halo: Combat Evolved HD remake thingy? “It was more a celebration,” Spencer explained. “It wasn’t’ the beginning of an HD remake line.”

I see.

LOL! MS running off at the mouth again. The first hd remake for Sony was for God of War and it allowed new players to the God of War series (like me) to catch up on the character and story before the new game. It is the same with Sly Cooper. Also, Sony is not just throwing the games out there left and right, they are only doing it if there is a demand for it. I love the hd collections because I get to play games I have never played and play them in an upgraded way. If people want them, then make them. I do not see the problem with it. No one is forcing the consumer to buy them. So if they are profitable, then that means there is demand, so why no please the consumer by meeting that demand.

I totally agree with you, Josh. Don’t know what MS is up to here, but Spencer sure does sound a bit confusing.

I almost feel like he is jealous because he does not have that many games that can be remade and have a high demand for like Sony. LOL.

LOL! It does sound that way, doesn’t it? LOL. I’m sure we’ll see some more HD remakes from MS. They’ve got some good stuff on Xbox.

    but thats what we want!
we want to play our favorite franchises the way we remember them, and publishers are so hell bent in turning them into different things in sequels were forced to look to the classics!
id much rather get R&C 3 in HD then i would a new R&C game!
id much rather get GTA vice city, or san andreas in HD then i would GTAV!
or many other games in that retrospect.
tis why im so excited for the DMC HD collection, guaranteed to be 10000000000 times better then that game ninja theory are working on!
