Quenchables: Carmack Says1080p Mandatory For Next Gen

Did you know that your PS3 and Xbox 360 can handle 1080p quality output? Ah, yes. But most game developers don’t bother because sacrifices must be made in other areas, including framerate too maintain a 1080p game. id Software’s John Carmack don’t like the compromise, and he’s demanding 1080p output from next generation of consoles. His quick, quenchable quote’s below.

“Targeting 1080P for next gen consoles brings pixel precision back to relevance. Almost every display screws with 720P,” tweeted the legendary dev.

Thanks, Kotaku.

thats pretty stupid most games meaning a good 98% of them are developed with low res textures so you wont even be able to tell a difference. unless for some reason next gen every games going to look amazing thats not going to happen

    Good point, lingling!

1080P 60FPS will be the standard, but id like to see instead of 1080P just stick to 720 but with ray tracing.
i doubt we will have powerful enough hardware, definitely not if the 2013 – 2014 rumours are true.
but replacing resolution for ray tracing would offer a far better smoother image!
developers really need to work on high AA support too, thats one department the PC is so much better.
jumping from the 360 or ps3 to PC is made so apparent especially because of the new AA techniques supported.
