Second Naughty Dog Team Working On The Last Of Us For Past Two Years

Naughty Dog is now a two-team developer, and according to the firm’s Neil Druckmann, work on The Last Of Us, the studio’s new IP, has been ongoing for the past two years.

That’s what Druckmann tweeted, with ND co-president Christophe Balestra calling it the best kept secret in the industry.

Over at the U.S. PS Blog, Naughty Dog was asked about the game’s dark, mature nature, something Balestra said was only natural as they are growing team.

“We’re growing right, as our audience [is], and we want to just take another step in that direction. It’s something we wanted to do, so we took our chances with The Last of Us,” he said.

Balestra then took to another feat Naughty Dog accomplished: keeping the game a secret for so long.

“We were surprised we were able to keep it secret so long because we’ve been adding a second team for a long time now, and we’ve been giving hints to the players. Nobody knew it was from Naughty Dog,” he said.

“It was terrifying. Every single step of the way, when we were updating the website, we were afraid we were going to leak something out, and we just really wanted to keep it under wraps,” added Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells.

“Christophe said it was important for us to maintain the secret. I think it’s unprecedented in the video game industry to hold a secret like that this long.”

Naughty Dog also said there are many clues out there, but those who seek shall find. They’re not going to make this easy…at least not yet.

“Keep watching the trailer over and over again,” Wells encouraged. “Lots of clues, and little teases in there about what the game’s about.”

im really shocked they were able to keep this secret for so long!
especially with all the leaks been going on this year, i mean beta builds leaking to the net, unannounced projects leaking left right and centrer, even stories for next gen systems.
its nice to have something announced for a change, then having it leaked and not having the full picture.
