Battlefield 3 PS3 Patch 1.02 Doesn’t Fix Voice Chat Problems, Might Be A Hardware Issue (Update)

UPDATE: The representative who told the disgruntled customer that he’s entitled to a refund was an EA employee, not Sony. We sincerely apologize for the mix up.

Original Story: The Battlefield 3 patch 1.02 which is now live on PS3 brought with it loads of fixes that fans of the game are happy about, find patch notes here. But there’s one unending problem with the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 that easily negates the user experience, even causing gamers to quit, and although DICE has tried to fix the issue in the past, we’re now learning that the problem is actually a hardware issue, which means if you want, you can get a refund from Sony.

In fact, a Sony representative assured a disgruntled customer that he had enough grounds to get a refund because of the game-breaking problem, and admitted to PS3 being the root cause.

“I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing those problems with your EA game,” said the supposed rep to the user, per CVG.

“If opening the ports i sent you still fails to resolve your VoIP issue we acknowledge that there is issues regarding the PSN VoIP service that would be detrimental to your gaming experience and should be enough grounds to seek a refund from the retailer you bought it from if you so wish.”

    as the person who go that email, you need to check your facts.

    the email came from EA, it did NOT come from SONY, as the article clearly states.

    it is NOT a hardware issue that cannot be dealt with. chat worked fine on BFBC2, and works fine on lots and lots of other games.

    it is EA/DICE not having written the game properly.

    the PS3 can do chat fine, if the software is written correctly.

    as such, it is EA/DICE that need to carry the can on this, and to suggest otherwise is grossly misleading.

    @geekboy78: Anyone could come in here and claim they were the customer Sony contacted. Evidence is what is key. How do we know you’re telling the truth?
