You’ll Want A PS Vita If You Care About Games, Says Sony

If you’re all about videogames, then PS Vita is the portable machine for. At least that’s what Sony believes.

It was Michael Denny, senior vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Europe, who spoke those words to Videogamer, adding that PS Vita will be massively appealing to gamers.

“Our mission, our vision, is that we now have a portable gaming system that is going to be massively appealing to gamers – initially core gamers, but then a wider sense of gamers going forward,” he said.

“We have to concentrate on our plans and make sure we supply the right games, the right experience, the right software, and the right social connectivity for the platform. I believe if you care about games you’re going to want a Vita.”

Denny acknowledged that the portable market is not like it was years ago, admitting they’re coming into a very competitive market, however he differentiated PS Vita from the bunch by claiming it to be a true next-gen platform.

“We have to acknowledge that we’re coming into a very competitive landscape in the portable, mobile gaming market,” he said. “But I think the main thing for us is that we are a true next-gen platform. We are going to truly differentiate ourselves from the competition, so people who do care about the gaming – who want a deeper, richer, more immersive experience with their gaming – are going to absolutely love this device.

It’s been built from the ground up with creative games developers in mind as well, to give a hardware feature set that we think is unrivalled. With the launch line-up that we have as well, we feel it will be compelling to gamers everywhere.”

PS Vita goes on sale Feburary 22nd in the west.

I think So is overhypening this Vita and it will be a flop. I bought 2 PSP and i have years that i don’t even play them. Sony is once again making too many mistakes. No holiday launch here, no game archives or save archives. Sony needs to just stick to making movies, music, and the PlayStation 3. They are no longer the once all powerful company that they once were. Even the name of it sucks sound like something Microsoft would use for a device.

I think both of you have good points.. Overselling is always a problem, it leads to people having an over-the-top expectancy level….But yeah, if you have a PS3, PS Vita will definitely compliment it.

    i certainly hope so!
though it SERIOUSLY needs a price drop!
everything for it is a freaking rip off, i mean they want 30 bucks for a freaking AC adapter!
i bought 2 AC adapters for my go a few weeks ago because the old one broke, the 2 cost me 10 bucks!
the cards are a rip off too, you could buy a 16GB M2 card for the price there asking for a 4GB vita card!
games are a rip off too, play asia has most of the vita games at a HIGHER price then bloody ps3 games!
i never thought id see the day where a game for a handheld device was more expensive then a game for a console!
now i know what vita really stands for.
    virtually impossible to afford!
