Game-Changing: Major Sony Dev Shifts Focus To PS4 Development

Game-Changing: Major Sony Dev Shifts Focus To PS4 Development

The eighth generation of consoles is upon us.

Not only is Microsoft prepping to release its next Xbox late next year, Sony is planning to do the same thing. Man, I’ve been on top of this all along. Here and here! Anyway, one of Sony’s major developers has already left PS3 behind and is now focusing all its energy on PlayStation 4, with said developer being one of the teams involved in crafting the new console’s graphics technology.

It looks like both Sony and Microsoft have learned from their past mistakes, with Sony having the biggest lesson to learn when it allowed Microsoft a full year’s head start with the Xbox 360, foolishly. But Microsoft too must have learned that rushing out hardware just to upstage your competitor, although said hardware wasn’t ready for release, can be a very costly venture.

So forward we go to 2012! Are you excited?

Thanks, Edge.

Excited? To spend another $300 ? Not really. If I read 1 article about Microsoft or Sony not putting enough memory in the new machines I will stick with the last gen till pricing drops.

  • Ghost250

shoot you know me if it involves games the hell yeah im excited, hopefully they have a better launch this time aound

@rpatricky: I think they’ll stick way more memory than what’s in current gen consoles. It would be stupid not to…

@Ghost: I’m super-pumped. I was about to drop hard cash on a new Xbox 360 because I gave my brother the one I owned and then it dawned on me: Next year new consoles will be here! Yeah, I’m excited.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com newyearnewrule

    I’m ready for this! Excited!

  • linglingjr

im with rpatricky on this im not excited at all to needing to sell my ps3 and all the games just to buy a new console not one bit.

so when should i sell my ps3?

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

    Don’t sell you PS3, linglinjr! I

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

We don’t know when exactly the consoles will come out. Furthermore, I’m sure PS4 won’t be expensive as PS3.. Sony won’t make that mistake again.

  • nick

hmmmm, i have two feet which one should i shoot myself in?
thats what they will be doing by releasing a system next year.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

Why? It’s a race to first, bro. Sony doesn’t want MS to release before it, and MS wants the head start. Plus Nintendo’s about to go bold with Wii U….It’s critical. First is..

  • nick

yes, but not as critical as getting out current hardware.
    what would you prefer?
releasing first and having a console so unreliable, and having to release a new system sooner?
have it be more expensive to make, make a lower profit, have lower sales, have less games ready for it.
or taking a little longer, having a much more reliable system, making much more money of it, and having heaps of stable games for it?
common sense dude, no ones ready for a new system yet!
allot of people just bought a ps2 not even 2 years ago because thats when it just started becoming affordable and started to finally get some good games for it.
so now there expected to throw it away?
    no freaking way!
a friend of mines looking to get a ps3 soon, after seeing BF3 at the expo last month he really wants to get one.
if a new console was to release next year he would chuck a hissy fit!
nothing worse then turning up to a gun fight with a knife.
look at ninty, there having to release a replacement so soon because its not HD.
if the wii was HD they could of stuck with it for years more!
but its not, and because of that the wiis sales have gradually been dropping ever since the end of 09 when most of its exclusives dropped.
rush new consoles out and the exact same thing will happen to M$ and $ony.
last thing we want is new systems out which are technically outdated, ridiculously overpriced, extremely unreliable, and have no decent games for them!

  • ttbounty

i am excited to see what is new but I will not be 1st to jump on, I will wait for some Service Pack versions of either consoles.

But it is important for the console to be first to market, PS2 won with that formular some yrs ago against Xbox, then Xbox 360 came out the gates early and is current leader.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

@Nick: PS4, I’m assuming, will be much easier to build and will cost cheaper…Sony won’t make the same mistake twin….At least I hopped so.

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

@ttbounty: I agree, bro. Whoever launch first stand a good chance to dominate.

  • foxton

I think your right Ernice, Sony lost millions of potential customers by releasing their ps3 much later and for more expense than xbox, they will not make the same mistake this time round. Surely its more important to get a hardcore fan base and then any minor issues can be fixed with patch updates?! (sorry im not very tech gifted on these issues!)
Sony have finally closed the gap on xbox fan base and therefore i feel the shift is changing to Sony, they will want to take advantage of this by bringing out next gen when they are sat at the top! its like british politics, they only call for an election when they know they are miles ahead in the polls!
And Nick as for your mate having a hissy fit if he buys a ps3 and they bring a new one out next year? jees Ps3 been out for what 4, 5 years now? so why should sony wait just because your mate decides he wants one now!!
Sales are slowing as the market has become saturated, its time for the next generation of consoles and i for one cannot wait! (only if the price is right and trophies transfer over lol)

  • http://www.gamesthirst.com Ernice Gilbert

Couldn’t agree with you more, foxton! All truth. Especially the bits about Nick’s mate, and the need for Sony to launch first!

  • nick

where did i say they should wait?
releasing first has nothing to do with the success of the ps2.
the ps2 wiped the floor with the xbox because it had so many more exclusives for it!
same reason why the gap between the ps3 and 360 has closed so quickly.
releasing first is far less important then making sure you have a reliable system, a decent priced system, your making a decent profit, and you have heaps of diverse launch titles for it.
and i mean diverse as in both third party and first party, not like the vita which has heaps of 3rd party but only 2 first party.
need games for that system, only available on that system too.
not a crappy remake of a game already out on previous systems.
like the wiiU, thats really going to struggle unless ninty release heaps of their own games on it.
why would i buy a wiiU to play darksiders 2, metro last light, ACR, when i can play them on my ps3?
ok the graphics will be better, they will use the wiiUs touch pad, but does that really warrant the 600 bucks the system will cost?
