For Sega, No More Games Like Sonic Generations

Sonic Generations is your last chance to enjoy the franchise in its classic form.

That’s according to Sega producer Takashi Iizuka speaking to Gamasutra, saying he’d like to take the mascot into a new era. A modern Sonic of sorts.

“I would like to make a new standard Sonic, a modern Sonic if you will, in 2012 and beyond,” he told the industry site.

“There have been a lot of Sonic titles in the past, and I think, at this point, there’s a pretty good idea of what a Sonic game should be like — a fun, frenetic action game. As I said, I feel the need to surprise the fans in new and innovative ways, but I don’t want to do anything to depart from that style. The color powers in Colors are a good example of that.”

It’s a fair decision, but let’s hope the new direction is worthy of the legendary Sonic.

    the last good sonic game was sonic adventure 2. that was the prime of sonic, but now every game they come out with is just shovelware. i dont think they can ever go back to being that good.

    sonic generations is good though theres too much small platforming involved.
    sonics about straight line speed, go look at the original sonics you dont see him leaping from swinging chain to swinging chain 2000 times per level.
    thats whats really spoiled this, the controls are just too slow and unresponsive to have him jumping around from platform to platform.
    takes away the pace of the game too, whole point of sonic is about speed.
    kinda hard to run fast while sitting still waiting for a platform to swing close enough to jump on……..
    some of the levels are really well designed, the typical sonic formula as in long straights, and heaps of pin wheels exactly what sonic needs.
    but then some levels have so few of those and replace it with swinging platforms over spikes for 99% of the level.
    sega still dont get the point of a sonic game!

    I’ll buy it. Need to get a bit of Nostalgic juices flowing.
