THQ Isn’t Worried About GTA V

Same genre, but “completely different positioning”.

THQ boss Brian Farrell has been dismissive of the disruption the GTA V announcement will have on its own open-world game, free-roaming title, Saints Row: The Third, making clear that the two titles will be released far apart, and that their styles are different in many ways.

“I went online like everyone to see the GTA trailer,” he said when asked about the game.

“As you point out, it’s a high quality trailer and I think it’s going to be another fantastic game in the GTA series.”

He went on to speak of how differently the two games are positioned.

“GTA is still serious and character driven – a very different experience. Saints Row – if you saw our video today it shows you all the crazy stuff in the game.

It’s a totally different positioning, and if you read the forums it’s like ‘hey, I love GTA, and I love this game because it’s a very different game that knows what it is and is very entertaining.”

Saints Row: The Third is seeing preorder numbers four times higher than the previous game, and unlike GTA V, which will be released late next year, THQ’s title sees a release this month.

Yeah. I remember that. It’s a good thing they’re releasing far and wide apart.

it is a very different game catering to different people.
just because there both open world games does not mean they will attract the same people.
i have never, and will never see some of the crazy shit saints row lets you do in their games!
and thats the point, thats what separates it from the other GTA wannabes.
its like just cause 2, thats all about beautiful tropical locations, a cheesy story, heaps of vehicles and over the top gun fights.
and most important lots of destruction!
just because thats also a open world game does not mean it will be catering to the same people who will buy GTAV.
