Top 5 – Platformers On The XBLA

The Xbox Live Arcade is home to a great selection platformers that may not have seen a release anywhere else. While Little Big Planet fights to keep side scrolling platformers relevant to a modern audience, few other platformers are getting full releases on current consoles. This does not mean we are getting less, just from different places. We can all hope that “Sonic: Generations” might spark new interest into this fading genre, but for now lets looks at the best thats on offer for download on the Xbox Live Arcade.

This top 5 is split into two very distinct groups. Your standard high speed “Hop and Bop” platformer, where quick reactions and perfect timing are needed to complete the levels. And puzzle platformers, in which using your brain is as important. Both style of platformer have their merits, but we had choose one as our overall winner. See who we crowned the winner bellow, in Games Thirst’s Top 5 platformers the xbox live arcade.

Next week we are tackling the top 5 PS3 exclusives. You won’t want to miss it.

    what, no earthworm jim?
    :(
thats gotta be my favorite, piss myself laughing every time hes sitting there then hes pants drop.
so sad interplay is in financial trouble, they were working on a new earthworm jim game but now we will probably never see it!
    :(
shadow complex would be my 2nd choice, but not the normal game, the weapons experimental mode.
gotta try splosion man never played it before.

@ Nick. I tried to do games that were original for the XBLA (and PSN). I’m afraid that left out sonic as well.

Give Splosion man a try. MS. Splosion Man coming out pretty soon too.

come on, how can you not love earthworm jim?

    just downloaded it.
great game, but cant hold a candle to earthworm jim or super meat boy.
needs a story though, and some witty dialogue like what they have in portal 2.
great gameplay, but they need lovable funny characters in it.
the witcher 2s been keeping my busy this week.
best game ive played in a long, long time!
