According To Sega, There Are New Wii U Dev Kits Coming Next Month

Sega’s said that following the unveiling of Wii U at E3 last week, Nintendo’s getting ready to send out new dev kits to developers and publishers, hopefully with upgraded specs.

“It’s still a little early. There’s another generation of prototype hardware coming out in June or July that’s going to give us more information,” said Gary Dunn, VP of product development for Sega West to Eurogamer.

Concerning graphical prowess compared to PS3 and Xbox 360, Dunn said it was “too early” to call, however it will be “different”.

“We’ve certainly found it easier to get prototypes up and running on next-gen definition visuals, so we’re quite pleased with it. Given the fact that one of our graphics engineers ported something across very quickly I would say the answer to [having easily understandable architecture] has got to be yes.”

Nintendo Wii U comes out next year.

hopefully they will finalize the specs soon, is really worrying that its this late into the game and ninty still have not finalized it.
normally a 18 months before release specs are nailed in, that way developers can get to work on launch titles without having to worry about differentiating hardware specs in upcoming kits.
ps3 kits were finalized over 2 years before release!

Nintendo realized the backlash, and so they will boost the specs up more. They should, and I’m not buying a console without a good online service. It would be shameful in this day and age.
