Wii U Can’t Play DVDs, Far-Less Blu-Ray

Iwata’s confirmed that Nintendo’s latest console, Wii U, can’t run DVDs, and so if the thing can’t run DVDs, you shouldn’t even think of Blu-Ray, as he also confirmed that the latter’s a no-no.

“Wii U does not have DVD or Blu-ray playback capabilities,” he said in an investor Q&A which has been translated to English.

“The reason for that is that we feel that enough people already have devices that are capable of playing DVDs and Blu-ray, such that it didn’t warrant the cost involved to build that functionality into the Wii U console because of the patents related to those technologies.”

Wii U released next year.

Might be a stupid move on Nintendo’s part. Think of the buyer who will only want 1 console. They may choose the one that offers more…so even if you are the new kid on the block…the older kids will be able to do more tricks than you can. Wii U…thumbs way down. Dumb move Nintendo.

Dumb move indeed. Hate to say it but this feels like they’re going backwards
