Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3, social gaming, interconnected gamers, mobile connection – it’s arrived and gaming is now bigger than ever, says EA head John Riccitiello.
“There’s never ‘enough’ innovation and we should always be setting the bar higher,” Riccitiello told Industry Gamers. “What I don’t agree with is the implication that we’re waiting for the hardware guys to transition to help us realize the innovation.”
“I think the greatest innovation in the history of gaming is occurring right now. It is happening in the cross-platform arena — where Publishers are linking the best IP from console to PC to mobile to social.
This is hard to do, but it will change the way gamers interact with our IP.”
While he didn’t downplay the importance of new consoles, acknowledging they provide an “enormous new canvases”, Riccitiello was clear on the point that innovation lies with interconnectivity.
“The future is here, and centers on creating a 24/7/365 experience and community behind the games you love,” he exclaimed.
“Big game franchises have evolved from the ‘one and done’ model that released a new 15 hour experience ever 12-24 months. Games have evolved from a thing that you buy, to a place you go.
Anytime, anyplace – you can play, track your scores and see what your friends are doing. That’s the future of gaming.”

next step is transferring systems, allowing people to take there games from a system and continue them on another.
whats not clear yet though is whether we will have to purchase both versions of the game, say ps3 and psv, or just one, or one in particular.
would be cool if you could purchase either copy and transfer it over to the other system within the same brand.
so 3Ds to wiiU or ps3 to psv.

not yet were in between a hardware switch and its not quite clear yet which format will turnout on top.
releasing a new console now could mean betting on the wrong horse and being dead in a few years!
