During its Tokyo press conference today, Microsoft revealed that come next year, it’ll release yet another version of its ubiquitous operating system dubbed Windows, this time version 8. According to the software giant, the new software will be optimized for “tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors.”
CEO Steve Ballmer said that they were “obviously working on the next version of windows,” despite of the phenomenal success of Windows 7.
“Windows 7 PCs will sell over 350 million units this year,” he said. “We’ve done a lot in Windows 7 to improve customer satisfaction. We have a brand new user interface. We’ve added touch, and ink, and speech.”
“And yet, as we look forward to the next generation of Windows systems, which will come out next year, there’s a whole lot more coming. As we progress through the year, you ought to expect to hear a lot about Windows 8. Windows 8 slates, tablets, PCs, a variety of different form factors.”

sweet!
They’re just milking the consumers…
how are they milking the consumers?
we need a new OS, 7 is ok but its got allot of missing features apple have offered for years!
we need new APIs too, only way to implement them is to release a new OS.
I think releasing one every year is somewhat overdoing it..
how are they releasing one every year?
vista released late 06 to manufactures, and early 07 to retail.
7 released october 09 across the board.
every few years, and its needed because new APIs are constantly coming out and there impossible to implement without a new OS.
