PlayStation: The Official Magazine has gone Tomb Raider-heavy in its latest issue, showing the world’s first exclusive screenshots of Lara Croft in “Uncharted” terrain. There’s also lots of new details of the upcoming reboot helmed at Crystal Dynamics once you hit the link, and judging from what I’ve read thus far, we might just have a “win” on our hands.
Quencher Continues: “Crafting Lara Croft”
Crystal Dynamics On The Changes They’ve Made To The Super Woman
Her Voice
“We all agreed on the goals to find a voice that captured a younger and more relatable Lara,” said the dev to the mag. “We wanted to find an actress who we could believe in and also express a wide range of emotions.”
Her Face
“This was our most important challenge. We wanted the fans to recognize Lara in our design, but we knew we had to change her. She had to be younger and more believable; moving away from stylization allows us to make her more relevant.”
Her Hair
“Lara’s hair is mostly recognizable; we retained the basic shape and style but made it more disheveled to fit with the survival tone of the story.”
Her Physique
“Just like her face, Lara’s body needed to be more believable. We wanted to make her more realistic in proportionality, a body that is attractive without idealization.”
Here Outfit
“Lara’s clothes are deliberately common; she wears layered tank tops, cargos, and boots. She wears these clothes because they are practical for her adventure. Lara’s clothes will also show the wear and tear throughout the adventure and she’ll accumulate weapons and gear along the way. This evolution will showcase the physical growth that parallels her personal growth throughout the game.”
Her Fragility
The tone of the game will put Lara in life and death situations. Our goal was to create a damage system that will reflect temporary and permanent wounds. The game will be reflected on her body and clothes, a reminder of her survival story”.
It’ll be released next year for PS3 and Xbox 360. More details soon.
