Zipper Interactive Lays Off 33 Staffers

by Ernice Gilbert on May 19th, 2011, under News, PS3, Sony

33 employees at Zipper Interactive have become redundant, sending them back into the business of job hunting. But it’s not like the developer is about to shut down, as Sony assures us that the layoffs are part of a normal process.

This was “normal business practice and a result of cutting back on production resources after the launch of two major franchises,” said Sony.

Last January Zipper Interactive released Massive Action Game (MAG) and just last month SOCOM 4 saw its release, both being PS3 exclusives.

We wish them the best of luck. Thanks, Kotaku.

    they were probably just temps.
thats what happens, allot of studios beef up their team a month or so before deadlines to help with the load.
once the games out they no longer need said staff and let them go till next deadline, then they will be back.

Yeah all the studios do stuff like that…. And that’s not a big number anyway.

for a small studio like zipper it is, most smaller devs like them only have around 70 people.
so thats over a third leaving, but thats to be expected.
