If you’re from anywhere apart from Japan today, the PlayStation Network, a service that has been down for over a three weeks, should be working just fine for you, as Sony’s dealt with overload issues, and gamers across the world are reporting their “green light” status.
The only region where service hasn’t been turned on is Japan, as the government there wants Sony to prove to it how the network is more secure, so what happened late April never happens again.
According to a Fox Business report, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Commerce has not approved Sony’s plan to restart the Japanese PSN in tandem with international services.
Apparently the ministry’s director of Media and Content, Kazushige Nobutani, met with Sony but wasn’t satisfied that new measures put in place were adequate.
“As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference,” the minister said without elaborating, adding that the “welcome back” package Sony’s promised to deliver wasn’t generous enough.
“There were similar cases in the past that were caused by other firms, and we are asking Sony whether their measures are good enough when compared to countermeasures taken in the past,” he said.
On April 26th, Sony announced that the PlayStation Network was dealt a massive blow by hackers, and relayed the grim reality that our Credit Card information might have been at risk. The firm went on the offensive by turning the service off, hiring security experts and creating an entirely new department to handle future corresponding tasks. PSN was turned on in phases across the world starting on Saturday night.

The Americas are in full swing now after last night’s hiccup. All the states and U.S., territories are live, so if you haven’t been able to go online, you should give Sony a call.

Europe can rest easy, so can the Middle Eastern countries, as the servers have now caught a break and Sony’s turned on the service once more. It almost crashed last night, and this time Anonymous would not have been the culprits.
Welcome Back
Sony’s promised gamers a “welcome back” package that it hopes will adequately compensate for the PSN fiasco, and while we’ve yet to see the full lot, (should be up on the PS Blogs today or tomorrow) Sony’s already said all PSN users will be given a full month’s worth of PS Plus for free, and four free games of our choosing; two for PS3, and two for PSP.
