EA Goes On The Offensive With Battlefield 3, Looks To Establish “Beachhead” With Larger Audience

There’s one big game we know will hit stores shelves this fall, and it’s the next Call of Duty game. There’s another shooter that’s looking to make it big, and according to many, is the better product, and it too will be releasing this fall. So how do you take on the world’s biggest FPS? First, create a great and “superior” product, and then go hard with advertising.

EA’s done the former, and the latter, advertising, will be the biggest march we’ve seen from the publisher.

“With Battlefield 3, we believe that we have superior technology and gameplay. The gaming press validated this at GDC with a slew of accolades. We just need for everyone else in the mainstream to know that too,” said the title’s senior director of marketing, Lincoln Hirshberger to Industry Gamers.

“Last year, Battlefield Bad Company 2 earned better scores than the competition but, because Battlefield released in March, a lot of the mainstream Holiday hit buyers just weren’t aware that Battlefield was the better game. This year, we’re playing offense by launching Battlefield 3 in the holiday and we’re starting to get the word out early by kicking off our campaign to the mass market.

We decided to go big early in order to establish a beachhead with a larger audience and so far the results have been fantastic.”

The game will come available on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

still think EA are committing mass suicide with this.
they would be much better off releasing in october, there going to loose so many sales releasing up against the best selling series ever created!

both will sell, but i can see allot of people not buying this simply because of COD.
over 90% of my friends list plays either BO or MW2 every second there online!
so when the new one comes out they wont have any time to play anything else.
i just dont want to see EA put all there eggs in one basket, and then not see them back.
there betting the farm on this, there getting REALLY cocky!
i just hope it does not come back to bite them on the a$$!
