Pay Attention, Brink Comes Out This Week

PSN had better be up by tonight, or tomorrow for the latest; because Brink will be available at retail outlets in the U.S. on Tuesday, and Friday in the U.K.

Developed by Splash Damage and published by Bethesda, the game, according to the dev, seeks to revolutionize the shooter genre in more ways than one. The developer also recognizes that in order for them to be successful in this overrun genre, they must go hard or go home.

“The fact is that the most successful games companies are generally the ones that make the highest quality AAA games,” said Splash Damage CEO Paul Wedgwood, “not the movie tie-ins, the quick cash-ins, the releases tied with sports events or whatever but we never really understand why people do that stuff.”

It’ll come available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously, and recently Bethesda’s been showing off the many unique features of the game through videos:

The fps genre has been a rather “gloomy” space in terms of visuals, said Splash Damage, and with Brink they hope to put color back in the shooter.

“It is time to put colours back in first person shooters,” said Splash Damage art boss Oliver Leonardi.

Adding: “Of course, by the time you finish making this kind of bold statement there are other people that might release games doing the same thing! Yes, it’s true, I wanted to fight gloominess and blandness as I truly think we had enough of that, but I wanted it to fit within Brink’s context.

The Ark is a floating island sitting in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The place is flooded with light, the ocean around acts like a giant mirror adding even more light, and this light then bounces everywhere, making bright colours bleed.”
