Report – New Xbox Already Sent To EA

by Ernice Gilbert on May 6th, 2011, under Hot, Microsoft, News

The next Xbox will be out sooner rather than later, it seems, as a “senior, trusted, well-placed,” source has told Develop that the new hardware’s already on location at one of EA’s studios, and developers are already testing it out.

As of now, the new console’s design hasn’t been unveiled, and the one sent to EA is sitting in a PC shell. At the moment EA developers are getting to grips with the console, Develop has been told.

“Quite often when new consoles come around they’re packaged into a PC shell, but actually what’s inside is an entirely new console,” the source said.

“Why let Nintendo steal the thunder in June [At E3]? It doesn’t want to lose momentum. That’s why I think Microsoft is rushing to make an announcement at E3.”

The new Xbox will feature enhanced support for Kinect and will launch by the end of 2012.

Both EA and Microsoft has declined to comment, so there might be some truth to this. Develop’s source, however, doesn’t work for either company.

This is big news. Microsoft looking to release the console in 2012? Sony left behind again.

Sony is going to stick to their 10 year plan and not change, which i like. MS needs a new console. With dwindling first part exclusives and a console that is really starting to show its age, they need to start thinking about a new console. Sony does as well, but I do not think it should come out next year, or the year after.

i doubt they will be revealing anything anytime soon.
its too early, there doing fine now with the 360 if they were seeing sales dropping like what ninty are then ok but there doing quite well still.
plus why would you spend millions in R&D for kinect for the 360 then release a new console a year later?
you would be much better of leaving kinect for the new console as a reason to buy it.
i honestly cant see new consoles from M$ or sony until E3 next year at the earliest.
just because nintys jumping ship does not mean everyone else will.
plus dont forget project cafe is only slightly more powerful them current consoles so theres really no reason to release new consoles now.
if ninty was releasing a powerhouse then ok they would need new systems, but project cafe is allot like the wii.
wii released and was slightly more powerful then the ps2, and now ninty are doing the same.
there always a generation behind so theres really no reason for M$ or sony to release new systems.
then theres the fact that were in a recession, no ones in the right position for new consoles.
not manufactures, not retailers, not consumers, ATM no one is in the right financial position to drop 600+ dollars on a new system.
new consoles always release to accommodate new tech.
    what new tech is there?
ps3 and 360 already do that, albeit not brilliantly but they do it.
theres nothing really requiring new systems thats the biggest reason why i cant see new systems soon.
every time new consoles release theres something pushing for them, something that is not possible on current systems.
ATM theres really nothing of that nature, no new format or feature that cant be done on current systems.
the next format to come out which would warrant new systems would be double HD which is 3840 x 2160 pixels.
but screens to support such a resolution wont be ready for a while still.
laser tvs will be ready next, they were suppose to release in 08 but they had allot of burning and eye problems with them so they had been pushed back.
million dollar question is will we see OLED screens before laser, or will we skip to laser?
to be honest i dont see the point in OLEDs we dont need them, laser TVs are FAAAAAAAAAAR superior!
long story short we dont need new consoles now, releasing new consoles would be like hiring a crane to lift a leaf.
ok we can have better higher detailed graphics but then we would need new consoles again to support the higher res jump.

If it’s a total fabrication, then they’re good at fabricating stuff – Develop…
