PSN went out last Wednesday, and to make a long story short, today’s the following Tuesday, and the firm’s yet to put the service back online, or give any substantial update as to what’s really going on. Sony told us an “external intrusion” forced them to take down the service, and that they’re rebuilding the system for better security. Yet there are all sorts of rumors flying around the web and most of them are damaging to the firm.
Rumors which claim ours credit card information might be at risk, talk of hackers being able to download all sorts of content for free, all while Sony stock takes a dip on the US Stock Exchange. So are Sony really coming clean? I’m sure they’re not, in fact, up to this day, I still can’t visit the US PS Blog, and someone who claims to be part of Anonymous has stopped in the comments section of a particular thread here, claiming they’re still bombarding PSN with unwanted traffic.
A while back I wrote an article about PSN being unaccessible to me, and how I couldn’t even visit the US PS Blog. Most of you on Gamesthirst didn’t have that problem yet….but now we know I was just one of the first to suffer the “external intrusion” problem. But the fact that up to this day I can’t visit the US PS Blog, but just like when this started, I’m still able to visit the EU PS Blog, causes me to wonder whether Sony’s even fully identified the issues plaguing PSN.
Yesterday, someone who claims to be part of the hacktivisit group Anonymous stopped by on this thread and left the following comment:
“Awe I feel left out, I didn’t receive a warrant. I’ve been running LOIC on several pc’s hitting psn network for the lulz – they should have paid more attention to the irc channel we hung out in. I guess it was 40 idiots that didn’t know how to use proxys or TOR.”
Whether or not this person is part of Anonymous is unknown, but their apparent knowledge sure hints to an affiliation of some kind.
This is troubling; if Sony haven’t even fully figured out what’s really going on, PSN downtime could be much longer than anticipated.
Anger should be directed at Geohotz and Anons. Hotz gave them the keys to the front door and these hacker idiots took this info and ran with it. Hackers are the real reason this happened. But it all started with Hotz.

Sony have no one to blsme but themselves!
They don’t encrypt your Account info so it was only a matter or time till this happened.
They wont encrypt the important stuff, but they will encrypt your HDD.
Why?
Simple!
Sony are more concerned protecting themselves against glitters and cheater then they are protecting your bank account info!
Typical Sony it’s always me me me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s not too hard to encrypt your HDD to protect them from cheaters, but it’s too hard to encrypt your cc details!
