Get With It – The Best Games Are On PS3

by Ernice Gilbert on March 15th, 2011, under Articles, Hot, News, PS3, Sony

If you call yourself a gamer, you should at least own a PS3 or Xbox 360. They are both capable next generation consoles, and they both offer great value. You’ll have a blast on Xbox Live playing awesome games like Halo: Reach and Gears of War. There, you’ll also find all the multiplatform games we’ve come to love, with most of them being of a better quality on the 360.

So there’s no doubt the good folks who own said system have something of great value, but when it comes to games that are pushing console limits, those that have raised the bar, and those that have, and will continue to shape a generation, your gaze must turn to the PS3.

It’s not fanboy talk when I say the best games are on PS3. Let’s head past the break to find some of them.

~ Uncharted 3 ~ November 1st 2011

It goes without saying – Uncharted has become a franchise that has done more for the industry this generation than most games. When it first landed on the PS3, almost all outlets hailed it as one of promise, and by the time Uncharted 2: Among Thieves rolled in, everything changed. It’s received more awards than any other PS3 exclusive, and have caused developers to change the way they relay stories, and do narration in games. Naughty Dog’s masterpiece is now one of PS3′s fastest selling exclusives, and come November 1st, the third installment will be available worldwide.

~ inFamous 2 ~ June 7th 2011

inFamous just happened. We knew Sucker Punch was developing a title for Sony and we’d seen videos, ads and gameplay footage. But it wasn’t until we played the game for ourselves did we understand how great an effort it was.

Overtime it became a hit, selling extremely well for a new exclusive IP. There’s a strong following behind the title, and come June 7th, Sucker Punch will have for us a sequel that’s looking greater and greater every time new footage is released.

~ The Last Guardian ~ Holiday 2011

This game is being helmed at SCEJ by the developer of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. If you know about those two games, you’ll know they were some of the better experiences in the famous days of PS2. Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda has promised a tale that will enthrall all those who dare embark on the journey, forged by a strong relationship between the main protagonist and his animal. It’s a game many are waiting to get their hands on, and come this Christmas, the wait will be over.

~ Resistance 3 ~ September 6th, 2011

Resistance: Fall of Man was a PS3 launch title that showcased the power of Sony’s behemoth in its early days. It’s also a game that helped the console beat back criticism of what was thought to be a architecture that was too hard to work with.

The fps can still hold its own today against some of the best of them, and boasted a multiplayer component that’s been played by millions for many years. In a day when fps titles were mostly about war with terrorists, Insomniac Games brought out a fresh experience to PS3 owners.

The first sold over 3 million copies (closer to 4million), and the second sold great as well. Now, on September 6th, Resistance 3 will be released.

~ Killzone 3 ~ Available Now

We reviewed Killzone 3 and gave it a 9.5/10 for being one of the most impressive fps titles to date. Read the full review here. There’s no long argument, Killzone 3 sets the bar high in many regards, but especially in multiplayer, giving gamers an addicting experience presented in a unique and distinct style.

~ Agent ~ Release Date Unknown

We know almost nothing of Agent, only that Rockstar is behind it. But if we’re to go by the games the developer has made in the past, we should rest easy that this PS3 exclusive title will be one that sets the bar high.

~ Twisted Metal ~ To Be Announced (2011)

It’s David Jaffe’s Twisted Metal, and later this year the game will be hitting PS3 exclusively. Jaffe’s been talking about his game incessantly, and in an interview with EGM, he said if you love multiplayer, then Twisted Metal is for you.

“A huge proportion of our energy is the multiplayer,” Jaffe said. “Single-player and co-op are going to be tuned and fun, the stories are going to be twisted and creepy like they’ve always been, but if you’re looking for some grand epic adventure game on a quest experience this is not what you want to be looking at.

If you’re looking for amazing addictive multiplayer and really cool modes and vehicles, and abilities, absolutely we’re the game for you.”

And there you have it. It’s not the complete list of PS3 exclusive games coming this year, not by a long shot. The full quencher’s right here. Games like LittleBigPlanet 2, Motorstorm Apocalypse, MLB 11 The Show ( see our review here), Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Yakuza 4, SOCOM 4 and tons more can only be enjoyed on said console.

Remember there are also great games that’s available only on Xbox 360 like Halo: Reach and the upcoming Gears of War 3, but at the end of the day, especially in 2011, Sony’s PlayStation 3′s stolen the show.

Uncontested.

I have to agree with this. PS3 has the best line up this year, and I am a HUGE fan of Gears, but from what I have seen in the gameplay videos of Gears 3, they seem to have taken the game further away from its roots and I am not as excited for it. I am still really excited, but not as excited.

    depends what genre.
RTS, RPG, MMOs and platformers are still better on the PC.
theres allot of indie platformers that are so much fun, like super meat boy which is also on XBLA but its got a few missing features and levels.
O, horror too, theres a new indie game on steam cant remember what its called but i saw a video of it yesterday.
you play as a guy who wakes up in a haunted mansion and you are slowly loosing your mind and you have to piece together what happened to you, and get out of the house.
your only tool is a flashlight, which protects you from the darkness.
just watching the trailer made me redecorate my pants!
need to hunt it down, looks really good!
so long since i played a properly scary game!

It’s not even an argument. Anyone who knows something about games can clearly see the PS3′s 2011 lineup is unmatchable.

where did i say its not unmatchable?
just saying theres genres that are better supported elsewhere.
    especially platformers and puzzle games.

No, I understand, didn’t dispute that… And you’re right… There are many games out PC and Xbox Live that are defining titles…no doubt.
