Because if it’s not, says lead designer Cliff Bleszinski, the series could die.
That’s what he told IGN recently, reminiscing on Gears 2′s dysfunctional and terribly exploited, lag-riddled multiplayer.
“Because if we release Gears 3 and it has the same launch as Gears 2 online then the franchise is dead,” he said.
“So you can’t afford to make that mistake twice, right?
And to be fair over the course of the six title updates, we got Gears 2 in a very good position. And we need to take it to great. And that’s what this will help do.”
Gears of War 3 will see a beta come April, and will launch worldwide in September exclusive for Xbox 360.

they tried to do to much with gears 2. Why did they need to add a matchmaking system? I was happy with choosing the person I was going to play against. I know they added something similar to gears 2 later, but it was not the same. For some unknown reason, Gears 2 liked to choose the person with the worst connection, and everyone lagged, but when i could choose a room, I could see how bad their lag was. Oh well, we will see how this game goes when the beta comes out. I expect to be playing the near final code in the beta as well. This game is already completed and all they should be doing is testing the servers and balance issues. So they have not real excuse if there are issues with the code.
Great points. I’ll be jumping in there as well.
the series is never going to die!
selling 2M units on launch day is very impressive!
they have dedicated servers now so that should help keep the game nice and clean, reliable and lag free!
It’s THE 360 game I’m looking forward to.
its the only 360 game to look forward to!
well that and project kingdoms, but god knows when thats coming out!
