Analysts: 8 Million 3DS Units Will Be Sold This Year

by Ernice Gilbert on February 23rd, 2011, under Hot, News, Nintendo

If Nintendo’s listening to the analysts, the firm must be pretty happy with the words coming from their mouthes concerning its latest handheld. Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey expects Nintendo to ship over eight million 3DS this year to western audiences.

“We’re assuming Nintendo can sell-in 8.17 million 3DS units to the Americas and Europe through the company’s fiscal ’12 period (March ending),” he said.

“We believe initial sales of the 3DS will be amazingly successful when you consider a global addressable market of nearly 150 million and 65 million DS and PSP installed bases, respectively.”

“We also anticipate an elevated buzz environment surrounding a glasses free 3D experience; combinated with initial supply shortages and a strong line up of launch games that will likely appeal as much to adults as to the traditional pacifier wielding DS player.”

The 3DS will launch on March 25th in Europe on the 27th of the same month in the U.S.

Thanks, CVG.

Think that’s optimistic? Nintendo itself’s hoping to sell 4 million within three months.

    not at that price point!
another problem i forsee for ninty is their fans want the marios, the zeldas, the donkey kongs.
    so where are they?
all the launch lineups are new versions of 3rd party games like RE or street fighter.
yea they got the return of kid icarus but thats about the only nostalgic title they have, and thats all fans want nostalgia!
its far too expensive, and it does not have the games their regulars want.
once it gets a price drop, and the usual ninty games release it will sell well.
    till then………

And Australia and those prices. I really wanted to visit there. Oh well, I’ll wait until the end of the year…. when I’m a multi-millionaire ; )
