Crysis 3 Will Happen If Crysis 2 Sells Close To What Black Ops Sold

by Ernice Gilbert on January 26th, 2011, under Crytek, EA, News

Crysis 2′s not even out yet, but already Crytek’s boss, Cevat Yerli, is talking about what it’d take to develop the third installment of the game.

Want to take a guess? How about selling close to what Black Ops sold? I know, I know. It’s optimism at its best, but you can’t blame the man.

Yerli said Crysis 2 must be successful before there can be any Crysis 3. According to him, it must meet their “goals”. Now what exactly are the goals Crytek’s hoping Crysis 2 meets is yet unknown, but most would have guessed at least 4-5 million units across all platforms. Yet Yerli has his eyes set on something else: Call of Duty: Black Ops’ numbers.

“We definitely want to make Crysis 3,” Yerli told CVG. “I’m not making a formal announcement. We’d like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first. I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2.”

Adding: “If it doesn’t meet our goals, for whatever reason, and doesn’t even break even, then there may not be a Crysis 3. But if it sells anywhere near what Black Ops has, there may be more from Crysis.”

The developer’s working on other products, too. With Yerli talking about diversity and its importance to them as a big company.

He said: “We have a bigger ability now to expand with more games. As a company we can’t just make shooters, we need to breed genuinely new forms of entertainment and interactive experiences…

The genre may not even exist yet for that matter, so what we’re keen on is games that offer new experiences for every moment the gamer plays.”

Crysis 2 comes out on March 22nd in the U.S., and on the 25th of the same month in Europe.

lol, I laugh every time someone from Crytek opens their mouth. They shouldn’t have had a mp demo for all to try on xbox. I know why it is not on pc or ps3. It is because Crytek knows that people on pc and ps3 are more stingy and when they play this mediocre mp game, they will not buy it. Especially with kz3 out.

I think you’ll come to realize that we’re not all haters here, Epsilon. We just think Crytek’s hopes are tad to high….

well, I have played the beta most of today, and it has grown on me a little, but it is not enough to make me want to buy it. They have a lot of things to change, and it just did not meet the expectations that Crytek built it up to be.

i just hope crysis 2 lives up to all the promise!
im really starting to get worried that they have showed off nothing but the 360 version.
if the PC version is so good why not show it off?
if the ps3 version is just as good as the 360 version why not show it off?
im starting to think this is going to be another one of those 360 shoddy ports!

    I certainly hope not.
