Confirmed: Epic Games Working On New IP, Reveal To Come At GDC

Thought Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm were the only two blockbusters Epic Games are busy working on? Think again, son. Cliff Bleszinki’s confirmed to EGM that there’s a new title in the works, one original forged by him.

Just “keep your eyes peeled for GDC this year,” he said.

It was Epic Games boss Mike Capps who first confirmed the news to the magazine, and while interviewing Bleszinski, the question was posed. Bleszinski, however, didn’t hesitate. Instead the Gears of War lead designer let loose some tidbits.

“He actually confirmed it?” Cliff was acting surprised… “We’re starting to get to that fun phase, keep your eyes peeled for GDC this year.”

When asked if the new IP was originally his idea, he replied:

“Um, it started off like that, but it’s mutated since then. When we hired a designer, [Prototype lead designer Eric Holmes] to work on it, he had to make it his own,” he continued.

Adding: “I’ll tell you it doesn’t have orcs and elves in it [laughs]. I’m going to let Blizzard own that space.”

Cliff said later in the interview that it wasn’t Gears of War 3 that keeps him excited these days, but rather the new IP, adding “I believe we as game designers are the Stan Lees and Jack Kirbys of our day, and we’re creating theses universes that leave a huge impact on people.”
