New Tomb Raider Details Surface, Scans Included, Shows Promise

And just like that, before you could even go out to GameStop to pick up the latest Game Informer magazine, someone’s already done the job of leaking all the juicy details concerning Square-Enix and Crytal Dynamic’s latest Tomb Raider effort.

Catch all, plus some pulsating scans past the jump.

It comes to us per NeoGAF, and I must say the reboot’s nothing like any of the prior Tomb Raider titles.

Firstly, you should know it’s a prequel to the entire franchise, dating back to Tomb Raider on the PSone. It’ll start off with Lara Croft in her youthful years, (21 to be precise) who’s found herself stranded on an Island after a terrible shipwreck.

No longer will the old game’s targeting system be utilized, as Crystal Dynamics will opt for a free-aim system instead. Lara’s abilities will also be upgradeable, with base camps being made available that will allow Lara to combine items and get access to a skill system that’ll make the aforesaid possible.

In a sense, the game’s like Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. In a sense. You’ll need to collect food and water to survive on the island all in a survival horror atmosphere. Just like Snake had to eat snakes to survive.

Here’s Crystal Dynamics boss, Darrell Gallagher:

“I think that the major difference between this game and the old is the concept of smoke and mirrors,” he said.

“There was an illusion of freedom because of streaming and loading that would pop you out in a different location, but this is absolutely real. You can literally go any direction that you see and carve your own way to the finish line instead of being guide.”

With the game’s director, Noah Hughes adding: “It was important in the game to not only deliver the character arc of Lara Croft emotionally, but to deliver it in gameplay as well so the player gets to grow into a hardened survivor.”

Quencher Continues: The Scans Tell A Tale Of Hope

Can’t believe I”m actually saying this, especially after the last three titles have left us extremely disappointed. But I’ll say it nonetheless: The scans made available below to quench your thirst, shows that the franchise still holds promise, and the more I look, the more of a believer I’m becoming.

See if they have the same effect on you, per PlayStation Informer:

There’s not date that’s been made available for the game, only that it’ll be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
