The talk before Black Ops released was whether it’d be able to outsell Infinity Ward’s juggernaut, Modern Warfare 2, but with early estimates already in, we now know it’s on a much faster pace than the aforesaid game.
In fact, things are looking so good for Treyarch’s latest Call of Duty effort, that Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian believes it’ll top $1 billion in sales this holiday season alone.
“Black Ops sell-through is tracking slightly ahead of our 4Q unit estimate, and is trending ahead of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 a year ago,” he said.
“Last year, retail sales of MW2 reached $310M over the first 24 hours. Over the holiday period, we expect Black Ops to generate $1B+ in retail sales, rivaling top entertainment launches in the past such as Titanic, Thriller, and last year’s game.”
It’s amazing, the power of this franchise is.
Thanks, Industry Gamers.

never trust vgchartz
sold much better than what i was expecting.
much better than what i was expecting too, thats not saying much though.
i was hoping it would have the action sequences of MW2, you know the snow mobile race, the mountain climb, the stealth missions they were so fun, broke up the style and helped speed up the pace of the game.
BO is far too repetitive, its the same crap from the start to the end.
have not finished it yet, am about a hour off i think, but the whole time i have played it feels the same.
come on guys, i can only spend a short amount of time doing the same crap over and over and over again till i get bored out of my mind!!!!!!!!
Yeah. But they must change soon, innovation is what takes the industry forward, and if these guys continue to bring the same experience to the table, it’ll eventually fail.
no, it wont.
they could release BO with updated graphics for the next 20 years and it would break sales records!
look at FF XIII, it is by far the worst FF game ever made and did that stop it from selling like hotcakes?
a game does not need to be innovative to sell well.
should not need to either, the only thing a game should need to sell well is to be really fun.
sadly, that seems like the last thing people are interested in these days.
tis why just cause 2 got crap scores, and GTA IV got 10s across the board!
if i was given the choice of playing nothing but GTA 4 or JC2 for the rest of my life, there would be no thinking, just cause 2, its a no brainier!
