Ted Price, head of Insomniac Games has declared that if Sony were to fail now, his company wouldn’t be successful.
Making games is no cheap venture. Publishers spend millions of dollars investing in their IPs, while developers risk everything, banking on the game’s success. It’s a two-way street: devs make the games, publishers do their part and everybody leaves happy, that’s pending said games become successful.
Insomniac and its longtime partner, Sony, has seen success with every title said developer’s created, and their relationship grew rock solid over the years. But now Insomniac’s decided to break free and dive into the multiplatform world, tying itself with EA to release a brand new game that will see a release on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Still, the deal with EA Partners alone cannot keep Insomniac Games afloat, especially after the company opened up another studio in North Carolina. Price knows this, he reckons that his company’s success is still tied to Sony’s.
“Our success was, and still is directly tied to Sony’s,” Price said in an interview with EGM when asked a bout being in a position to carry the PS3′s banner in its early days, when all the backlash was happening concerning price-point and games library. “Especially during the launch, if Sony went down, so did we.”
Price continued, adding: “I still believe that the PS3′s an amazing machine and have never had qualms about saying that publicly. Yet it was tough for all of us when we knew our games were being affected by backlash over the things you mentioned.”
“Early on, I think hardcore gamers, and journalists, had a real axe to grind with Sony and that sentiment carried over to first-party games, no matter how good they were.
“Fortunately, I think we’re past the rough spot and PS3-exclusive games are no longer being affected by any stigma that may have been attached to the PS3.”
EGM’s in stores now, it’s worth a buy.

I like this dev. R&C A4One seems like it’ll be fun to play with family and friends, preferably in the same room. I didn’t think I’d be interested in that game but I am.
Yes indeed. I’ve played some of the early games and I must say, having ALL4One to play with family and friends will be a blast.
If it says Ratchet & Clank, I am getting it. I love the characters.
Agreed. The franchise also brings back memories.
