Uncharted Movie Has A New Director

Will we ever see the Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune movie that Columbia Pictures’ been wanting to make for the longest while, come to life? Yes, it just might.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the film will be helmed by David O. Russell, who has reportedly signed a deal to write and direct an adaptation of the PlayStation 3 action adventure.

Some of Russell’s best work include Three Kings, Flirting With Disaster and I ♥ Huckabees, with his latest project, The Fighter, coming later this year starring Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.

If it does come to fruition, let’s just hope Nathan Drake doesn’t become yet another statistic in the long line of game film adaptations that have failed.

Here’s Matt Tolmach, one of Columbia’s presidents on Russell:

“David is a tremendous choice to take on this film. He’s equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation.”

So there’s hope it’ll work out, then. Please, sir, take your time with this one.

Thanks, Kotaku.

I think these games could work as movies, but that does not mean I want to see them as movies.
