Call of Duty: Black Ops is not even out on sale yet but analysts are already projecting how many copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be sold, and who will develop it.
According to Janco Partners’ Mike Hickey, developer Sledgehammer is currently at work on Modern Warfare 3, and not series creator Infinity Ward.
In a research note released this afternoon, Hickey predicts the game will launch in the financial year ending March 31, 2012.
“We believe Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be released in fiscal ’11, likely developed by Sledgehammer Games, and could sell in excess of +18 million units,” he wrote.
But that’s not all, the analyst also believes a Call of Duty online-only game will launch in China during the same time, with an MMO game coming from Bungie the following financial year.
Sledgehammer was recently hiring for a Call of Duty title they’ve been working on, so this could be it.
Infinity Ward in its current condition cannot handle the next game, as over 50 percent of the studio’s staff left, with most joining Jason West and Vince Zampella at Respawn Entertainment.
Thanks, CVG.

i don’t support activision products, so what I’m really trying to say is that sledgehammer & activision can shove it where the sun don’t shine. we all know whats better, time for medal of honor to reclaim the crown.
So it’s safe to assume you’re getting MOH? Great, we all we get it, then! “We Play, We Dominate”
@Ernice Gilbert, oh yes sir, been playing medal of honor since the ps1, i guessing your getting it too. so i guess ill see you and everyone else online. “We Play, We Dominate”
Indeed. RedBull’s getting it, Nick’s getting it, and some other guys. We have to convince ExclusivesMostly. I think Linlinjr is getting it, too. Should be awesome! Looking forward to it.
i’m so sick and tired of call of duty. soon he whole free world will
awesome. I know a lot of people who are getting Medal of Honor now. We should have a pretty good team.
Indeed, I’m really looking forward to it now. Our team should be stellar.
while im positive there working on a COD game i seriously doubt it will be MW3.
arent they suppose to be working on a FPS RPG esc game?
Yeah, but ever sine the fall of Infinity Ward, Acti needed another developer with some shooter experience within its walls to handle MW3, which, obviously, is more important than that RPG-FPS Sledgehammer was working on. The latter probably went on hold or was transferred to another developer.
nah, i doubt it.
its not that easy to just put a game aside once you have started work on it.
antivision have been hiring for IW, 50 bucks says thats where MW3 will come from.
theres still some people there who have worked on COD all their life, i really cant see antivision ignoring that experience and sending it off to a virgin studio.
there stupid, but there not that stupid!
Ah, we’ll see…
