I’ve always argued that story in videogames are the most indelible part of the package. Apparently, I’m not alone.
My theory’s supported also supported by Enslaved: Odyssey To The West developer, Ninja Theory. The studio’s chief designer, Tameem Antoniades, spoke to Gamasutra in a recent interview where he shared his thoughts on the situation.
“What we are creating is a story adventure,” he said. “Every element of the game should support that. So, I actually see story as — and I’m not embarrassed to say it — the most important part of the game experience.”
Yet, everything must mesh seamlessly if indeed for the experience’s going to be memorable.
He continued: “Everything, including the gameplay, which has to be solid — the sounds, the cinematics, the cameras, and the action — all of those things are part of the story.”
“And if you manage to integrate all of those layers together, you get this kind of transcendental experiences that you remember from gaming yore that you get in games like Ico, Out of this World, the games that you hold dear to your heart and that you never forget.”
True words, now let’s hope Ninja Theory’s upcoming title, Enslaved: Odyssey To The West deliver on the aforementioned. The game comes available on October 5th in the US and on the 8th in Europe. It’s for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Well I mostly agree. There does have to be good gameplay. other than that the story is most important.
Indeed, I’m very much caught up with story, if there’s none, I lose interest quickly — I need to know I’m playing for something or for a cause or whatever — you know what I mean ‘; )
no, 3rd important first is the gameplay, and 2nd is the controls.
theres no point having a story fit for star wars, if the game is boring as bat shit and has controls so frustrating you want to hurl the thing out the window!
Good point lol
I grouped controls in with gameplay.
Ha, that’s a good way to put it, it’s one in the same anyway.
