Sony: PS3 Exclusives Are “Better Now”

You thought Killzone 2 was the bomb, and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was sick, didn’t you? When Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots came out you thought ‘games can’t get any better than this’, and when you played Resistance: Fall Of Man, you concluded progress in the shooter genre had been maximized.

But if you look at the landscape today, surely there are games available that’d instantly change your mindset, and you’re not the only one, because according to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe senior vice president Ray Maguire, the exclusives to be had on the PS3 are “better now” than in the past.

“Yeah. There’s a huge amount of technology in the PS3 and that gives games designers choice,” he responded when asked by Eurogamer whether PS3 exclusives were better now.

“It was reasonably difficult at the beginning to decide on how you make those choices. But it’s been around for three years now, and what we’re seeing is people have got used to what choices they make.”

“We’ve seen some true innovation from the studios, whether it be first party or third party. That’s what we’re enjoying now,” he continued.

“I also think there’s been a reference to how people play their games and what they like out of games as well. Something like LittleBigPlanet, truly innovative game in the first place, but with true references to user generated content. It’s an important part, whether it be creating or using.”

I must agree with the exec on this one. Just look at God of War III and the overall epic feel of the game. Or take a look at Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and you’ll come to the same conclusion.

every exclusive is better now, thats always the case in a systems lifespan because it takes developers time to get use to the new architecture.
