Vanquish Shouldn’t Look Like “Anything Out There” Says Director

by Ernice Gilbert on August 26th, 2010, under Hot, News, Platinum Games, Sega

Vanquish will soon hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 like an unrelenting storm targeting the Caribbean Islands. Not only is the Sci-Fi shooter unlike anything we’ve ever played, according to director Shinji Mikami, it will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

This according to the man in charge of of Vanquish’s PS3 Engine as well as overall engine tuning.

“Shinji Mikami, the director of Vanquish, made a number of requests,” Hideaki Nakata said.

“I want the game to look unlike anything else out there! I want our battlefields to have the overwhelming feeling of a real battle,” Mikami told him.

Nakata continued, noting that the only way he thought said goal could be accomplished was by making the game bigger in terms of enemies, more bullets, etc.

“I realized the only way we are going to pull this off is with “quantity.” More and more enemies are going to have to keep appearing, more and more bullets are going to have to fill the air, bigger and bigger explosions are going to have to ring out…

We would need an engine that could pull that off while still keeping the characters and backgrounds rich in detail.”

Buy the game on October 19th.

Well I can confirm that it’s the fastest paced shooter I’ve seen thus far. Will be interesting to see how the final product turns out. Enslaved is being released around the same time and because of HS they’re front runners for my $ at this point.

Yeah, but given the choices between this and Enslaved, I’d choose Enslaved. Don’t know why, I think it’s because the game reminds me of Uncharted so much… Later, though, I’ll get Vanquish.

Come to think of it, my most anticipated game of the latter part of 2010, GT5, will release Nov. 2 so i might pass on both of these until a later date. Also LBP 2 (next on my priority list) is not too far away either. Man, I’m gonna spend so much this holiday season. I also like NFS but not as much as GT5 so I’ll get that next year probably: GT5 will serve all my racing needs for a long time, perhaps even until GT6.

Indeed. To me, every fan of racing should have GT5 in their arsenal. A just wouldn’t be complete without it. As for LBP2, it’s a must buy for me. Well, for my wife.

only if more developers thought that way!
im sick of playing the same game over again, im still not impressed by vanquish but at least there trying to differ themselves from the rest of the industry.
at least, instead of following the other developers off the cliff they have strayed away from the herd and have done something different.
so, for that i have to give them credit.

Amen. Give them credit, and try their new game : )
