And there you were thinking that come 2015, the world as it is will change altogether. No more will we need physical discs to play games on consoles, you thought, because by then, earth itself will be renamed “The Digital Planet”, and humans will be raging war against all who dare resist the phenomena.
Oh child, you are so wrong, because not only will we yet be using discs in the next 2, 3, 5, and even 10 years to come, PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai thinks “There’s always going to be” the need for a physical medium. Especially with a company Sony’s size.
“We do business in parts of the world where network infrastructure isn’t as robust as one would hope,” he told MCV.
“There’s always going to be requirement for a business of our size and scope to have a physical medium.”
Adding: “To think everything will be downloaded in two years, three years or even ten years from now is taking it a little bit to the extreme.”
Okay, we get the point, Kaz, but it was only in 2006, as reported by Kotaku, that Former Sony development head Phil Harrison told Wired that he’d be “amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive.”
As for me, I don’t care where the world will be in 2015 and down the line. I’ll always rather have me my physical disc to keep in my lengthy collection.
You?

Yeah I agree with Kaz. Some sort of physical medium is always gonna be necessary for the foreseeable future.
True. There are parts of the world that still lack high speed internet.
Exactly!
its not speed thats the problem, its bandwidth.
im paying 150 bucks a month for 15GBs of data, if i go over that im charged for every MB over AND my speed gets limited to 32Kbps which is DAM! slow!
this is why we will need a medium for our games for a while, not for forever, but for a while.
plus not only does downloading games waste download usage you need a nice big hard disk to store it on theres more expenses, and if its full which it eventually will be you need to buy a new one.
new tech is suppose to make our lifes easier not harder!
that is why electric cars will never take off, they are expensive and have limited range.
thats why hydrogen powered cars are the way of the future, because there the same as the cars of today.
Nice info there. Had no idea you spent so much cash on your internet… madness
yup! if you want unlimited its a hell of allot more!
its just too expensive at the moment, HDDs have dropped in price but there still 200 bucks for a 500GB HDD.
each ps3 game is a good 25GBs if not more, some are 50 so HDD size would be eaten up so quickly!
not to mention you cant take it around with you, no borrowing games, if your HDD corrupts you need to re download the games.
far too much hassle, for what is really no benefits.
Yeah, but like I said, even when we become “ready” to go all digital, I’ll still prefer hard discs
