Heavy Rain Sells Heavy: 1.5 Million Copies Since Launch

Many doubted whether Heavy Rain would even make back the $20 million Sony spent to develop it.

I guess those doubters are hiding their faces now; because according to Quantic Dream founder, David Cage, Heavy Rain will “sell 2m units before the year is up”.

Back in April, Cage said the title would sell 1.5 million copies in total, but speaking at GDC, he said the game had “smashed Sony’s sales expectations by shifting 1.5 million units worldwide.”

It’s all the more remarkable as the title held its RRP (Recommended Retail Price) since launch, David told the audience. He also said out of 500 reviews, the game still stands at above 90, which, he says, is the key to Heavy Rain’s long term success.

Thanks, MCV.

Well deserved. This is the most unique game I’ve played and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

no where near as many as it deserves!
i really enjoyed heavy rain, hopefully it encourages other developers to stray away from the norm, let your hair down and try something new!
originalitys fading these days sadly, gone are the days where games were so different from each other.
now, one sheep goes off the cliff so the rest follow!

It is indeed. I can’t help but think of how many people doubted its ability to perform. But look at how amazingly it has.

    yeah, cant blame them.
id be nervous too, in fact if it was up to me i dont think i would of given it the green light.
was a massive risk, they spent 5+ years making this game, they bought a sound recording studio and a mocap studio so that would of cost a serious amount of cash!
was a massive risk, they spent so much cash on it and had serious doubts if they would make it back.
thats what i like about sony, they take risks, they do things other companies would not.
they have such a vast variety of games, so many different styles, genres.
