For The First Time Since September ’07 (Halo 3 launch), Xbox 360 Is Top Selling Platform

The Xbox 360, a venerable console released in 2005 by Microsoft, a follow-up to the original Xbox. Many doubted its ability to stand against the likes of Sony and Nintendo’s gaming systems, but over five years later, it’s proving that not only can it hold up to the likes of Wii and PS3, the console’s even beating them in some markets.

This month, after many years, the console is number. Again.

“The PS3 and the Xbox 360 platforms both saw significant increases over July’09,” the NPD’s David Riley wrote (see our full interview with the exec elsewhere on the site).

“In fact, Xbox 360 was the top-selling hardware platform for the month, driven by sales of the new slim format SKU. It’s the first time since September ’07 (Halo 3 launch) that the 360 was the top-selling hardware platform.”

That’s no small achievement, and the sales boost must be attributed to the recently released Xbox 360 Slim.

Overall, all the consoles performed great, outdoing their prior records of July ’09.

It’s good to see the industry moving up. Hollywood had better take notice.

not bad, not bad at all.
looks like redesigning the 360 did the job!
i guess you dont have to release some decent games people would have a reason to buy them?
only game there releasing for the rest of the year is reach, and if its anything like 3 or ODST than thats nothing to brag about!
    both of those were crap!
im seriously thinking about trading in my 360, now that developers are starting to do some decent PC ports ill get all my MP games for that.
as usual i have 1 and only one reason to keep my 360, and thats the alan wake DLC.
but i dunno i want it that much, do i want the DLC so bad to keep a 400 dollar console?
    or just sell it.
the money i get for it could go to that G27 wheel ive been wanting for ages!

So what, you’d buy a 360 next year after you’ve sold the one you have now?

    yea, probably.
you would be surprised how much you can sell things for on ebay!
i bought my 360 preowned from EB for 250 bucks, 50 bucks says i can sell it on ebay for more than that!
