Nope, Kinect Cannot Read Sign Language

And here we were thinking that Project Natal Kinect was about to rule the world with its new, revolutionary feature.

Apparently not, if the peripheral’s maker’s to be believed. Kinect is not that magical as yet.

Microsoft relayed the information to Kotaku.

“We are excited about the potential of Kinect and its potential to impact gaming and entertainment,” a MS representative told the site.

“Microsoft files lots of patent applications to protect our intellectual property, not all of which are brought to market right away. Kinect that is shipping this holiday will not support sign language.”

So this was only about protection?

Buy Kinect on November 2 in the US, a Europe release date is expected to be announced at Gamescome next week. Get the time of Microsoft’s presser elsewhere on the site.
