For Enslaved Devs, There’ll Be No Sequel Unless The Game’s A Massive Hit

Most developers go around bragging their mouths off when there game is about to hit shelves, sometimes, they even talk about a sequel before the first title has gone out to the gamers. For Ninja Theory, the studio developing Enslaved: Odyssey To The West, it’s a wait and see situation.

Truth be told, the developer is not even planning on doing a sequel for the game. The only way this would happen is if the title’s “miraculously successful”. Ttudio boss Tameem Antoniades told CVG that [Enslaved: Odyssey To The West] is one story” and they “pretend there won’t be a sequel” just so the experience they deliver could be a full one.

But don’t take the studio’s candid talk for lack of confidence at all.

“There are ways to extend it out, I’m not worried about that. I just didn’t want to leave anything hanging – I hate that.”

So, Ninja Theory, what you’re telling me is, selling 1.5 million copies of a game (Heavenly Sword) on one console isn’t a success? Okay. I mean, it’s not Uncharted successful or Metal Gear for that matter, but 1.5 million’s not bad.

And what if Enslaved: Odyssey to the west does approximately 3 million as a multiplatform title, and let’s just say it sold equally on the PS3 and Xbox 360. What, 3 million copies sold isn’t enough to warrant a sequel of the game? Okay.

Whatever you say.

Yeah I don’t know about these guys, claiming no profit off 1.5 million copies of HS. Hard to believe.

P.S. I think Heavenly Sword 2 would’ve been a better choice for them: I’d buy it! Tbh I’m not sold on Enslaved just yet, still time though, need a demo I think.

Yes, I’ll have to try out the demo too, to see how it works. They said Enslaved will be as beautiful as Uncharted……

Heavenly Sword would have been great, too. But I’m assuming they’re looking at a bigger audience now with Enslaved being multiplat and all. I just hope the title sells well.
