When Ken Kutaragi was boss of SCE, the man had big visions for the console in every aspect, including hardware and all the specs. Well he’s there no longer, and ever since it’s been Kaz Hirai who’s sitting in the former bosses spot.
Hirai, however, has a different vision for future PlayStation hardware: he thinks first party developers should be in on all next gen systems.
Speaking to Develop Online, SCE WWS boss Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that Sony is working on new hardware, and that he wanted first party devs to have an input.
When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Hirai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get World Wide Studios in on hardware development’,” Yoshida told the site.
“So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].”
No news yet on whether Sony’s already gone full throttle with PS4 development. Nothing. However is more less confirmed that they’re hard at work on PSP2, which is set to be revealed between Germany (GamesCom), and Japan (Tokyo Game Show).
Interesting and humbling move by Sony.
