For Sucker Punch, Naughty Dog Are Gods

You remember inFamous don’t you? I’m sure you do. The game was one of Sony’s exclusive titles hyped to the ceiling as the best open world sandbox title to ever hit any console. When it was released, the game received decent review scores and did, somewhat, lived up to the expectations.

It wasn’t as ground breaking, though, and so in the sequel, Sucker Punch sort help from Sony’s best: Naught Dog, because to them, the folks who created Uncharted are gods.

“We got some notes from Naughty Dog when we were three months from releasing inFamous about what frustrated them about the climbing system,” co-founder of Sucker Punch and producer of inFamous 2, Brian Fleming told Nowgamer.

“It’s great because it’s like getting feedback from somebody you trust and respect and you know has your best interests at heart. They’re not trying to screw you, they’re saying here’s this piece of information that you can’t get from a focus test.

Testers don’t understand what it is you’re trying to do at the level that someone who spends all day, every day working on Uncharted can.”

It didn’t stop there. A trip to see Naughty provided inspiration for the Sucker Punch to go back to work and do their best.

“Our visit to Naughty Dog really showed us some things where they just have better approaches to some problems and we’ve been able to fold that stuff into how we’re doing things,” Sucker Punch development director Chris Zimmerman added.

“And it’s not just technology, although there’s lots of stuff there. Just their approach to how they integrate their game design with the story design. It’s great to see a team you respect – and any reasonable person would have a lot of respect for those guys given what they’ve been able to do in the last 20 years – and see how they work and how they decided to work that way and be able to apply those lessons to the way we go about things.”

For Zimmerman, the goal’s to “make as big an improvement between inFamous and inFamous 2 as between Uncharted and Uncharted 2.” It’s the team’s “overall goal,” he said.

for anyone naughty dog are gods!
look at the games they have released.
many developers have released games and every single one of them be fantastic games.
insomniac, valve, ID spring to mind.
but there are very few developers that release games and not only are they great games, they blow everyone away and throw the industry 10 years forward!
naughty dog are innovators, most developers follow the sheep, naughty dog lead!
they are the only developers who game after game make everyone jaws drop and show developers how its done.
i can not think of one other developer that does the three things ND do.
1 release a fantastic game every time they release one!
2 do it in a short amount of time.
most developers take 5 years to make there game, like sony SA with GOW3 or PD with GT5.
ND only took 3 years for uncharted and less than 2 years for uncharted 2!
3 not only release a good game every time, they blow the industry away!
show me one other developer that does those 3 things and ill eat my hat!
that is why they are the worlds best developers!
many developers release great games every time.
but very few developers innovate the industry and have peoples jaws dropped with every single game they release!
that is why naughty dog are and always will be the worlds best game developers!
now enough of that sucking up, NAUGHTY DOG GOD DAM IT STOP WASTING YOUR TIME AND MINE AND RELEASE ANOTHER CRASH BANDICOOT GOD DAM IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I know it’d sell great! maybe after Uncharted 3?

But then again, Acti owns the IP now so…

  4. nick July 7, 2010 at 10:01 am -

i dunno about that, apparently naughty dog bought back the IP rights.
that would make sense too because acti were releasing crash games every 2 years, its been a good 4 years since they released the last one.
so either they have stopped making the games, if they stopped than why keep the rights?
or there working on a new one, which i highly doubt because activision putting hard work into a game?
    IMPOSSIBLE!
only time will tell, though i really hope ND will do a new crash bandicoot game.
the day a new crash bandicoot game graces the ps3 is the day im in gaming heaven!
