I’m sure you’ve heard of Roger Eberts comments, where he claims videogames can “never” be art. Yes, we know he was wrong but for some reason the man wouldn’t shake on his stance. But now, after 4,500 comments vehemently going against his opinion, the critic has had a semi change of mind.
This time, he thinks that “some day” games might be “art”.
“My error in the first place was to think I could make a convincing argument on purely theoretical grounds,” Ebert admits.
“What I was saying is that video games could not in principle be Art. That was a foolish position to take, particularly as it seemed to apply to the entire unseen future of games. This was pointed out to me maybe hundreds of times. How could I disagree? It is quite possible a game could someday be great Art.”
He continued with his humble admissions: “Who was I to say video games didn’t have the potential of becoming Art? Someday? There was no agreement among the thousands of posters about even one current game that was an unassailable masterpiece. Shadow of the Colossus came closest. I suppose that’s the one I should begin with.”
That’s good Roger, that very good, your backstepping. It’s never to late to say I was wrong.

reading some of the crap he has written its clear hes never played games like uncharted 2.
nothing pisses me off more than when someone acts like they know what there talking about when they clearly dont!
like reviewing a game you have not played, or reviewing a game after playing 2 minutes of it!
